Kari to insurers, let rebranding begins with you

The commissioner for Insurance Mohammed Kari, has challenged insurance operators to urgently study ways and means of re-branding themselves to enable them change the perception of consumers of their services.

Kari, who said this in Abeokuta, Ogun State, while speaking on the need for the industry to esteem professionalism, noted that unless the operators re-brand their attitudes, no media campaign can succeed.

He noted that the time has indeed come for operators to speak professionally and act like the true insurance professionals they claim to be in the course of performing or conducting their business, adding that the failure to observe the tenet of professionalism in the past has caused the industry so much reputational injury.

“I am glad to say the current efforts of the Insurance Underwriters’ to change the perception of the public about insurance is timely and laudable. All other sectors should join in with their widow’s might to ensure the success of the project.

“It was at one of the meetings discussing the re-branding project that a Chief Executive emphasized everybody’s silent concern. She said until we the operators re-brand our attitudes, no media campaign can succeed.

“I want to challenge the Institute to urgently study the ways and means of re-branding our individual selves to ensure we change the perception of the consumers of our services,” he said.

Insurers have been strategizing on how to transform their business, through a multi-million rebranding campaign which would be driven through radio and social media channels.

The Chairman Sub Committee on Publicity and Communication of the Insurers Committee, Hassan Oye- Odukale, said the committee has adopted the proposal submitted by the a consultant, stressing that the initiative would be reviewed quarterly to access the performance.

The Vice Chairman Sub Committee Publicity of the Insurers Committee, Ebelechukwu Nwanchuku, said getting the youths to embrace insurance is the core mandate of the campaign, adding that operators hope to take the campaign to schools to enable them educate pupils on the need for insurance.

She also noted that the operators are eying the highly mobile individuals who need insurance to secure their future.

She posited that in line with the campaign, the operators have also resolved to improve on their service delivery, adding that the body have decided to pull resources together to pursue a robust and well coordinated awareness campaign.

Nwachukwu, maintained that all necessary channels would by used to drive the campaign, adding that the youth market remains a veritable haven for insurance growth.
