NAICOM restructures, creates 20 additional state branch offices

The Governing Board of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has approved the restructuring of the commission to accommodate new directorates and state branch offices across the country.

A statement by the Head, Commissioner’ Directorate, Rasaaq ‘Salami, said under the new structure, three more directorates were created in the commission, bringing the total number of directorates to nine

The new directorates are commissioner for insurance’ directorate, Lagos office, and legal and liquidation directorate.

NAICOM said the supervision and inspectorate directorates had been merged into one inspectorate directorate while the authorisation and policy directorate had been split into two separate directorates, namely policy and regulation directorate and corporate governance, enforcement and compliance directorate.

According to a statement, the restructuring exercise is part of the efforts at repositioning the commission for better service delivery.

It added that the commission had expanded its branch network by creating 20 additional state branch offices across the six geopolitical zones.

Also, four out of the existing five zonal offices, which are Enugu, Ilorin, Port Harcourt and Kano, have been converted to branch offices, bringing the total number of branch offices in the states to 24.

“As part of the exercise, Mrs. Adeshola Obeya has also been appointed as the Acting Secretary to the Commission. All changes and appointments are with immediate effect. The restructuring exercise is part of the Commission’s efforts at repositioning the Commission for better service delivery,” NAICOM said.

According to NAICOM, further to the exercise, the following personnel have been posted to head the respective Directorates:
Lagos Office, Mal. Adamu Balanti; Finance & Accounts, Mr. Olufemi O. Oba; Inspectorate, Mr. Barineka Thompson; Policy & Regulation, Mr. Pius Agboola; Admin. & Human Resources, Mr. Habila Amos; Corporate Governance, Enforcement & Compliance, Mr. Leonard Akah; Legal & Liquidation, Dr. Talmiz Usman; Research, Statistics & Strategy, Mr. Adewale Motajo and Commissioner’ Office, ‘Rasaaq ‘Salami.
