Gentlemen of the Press, the constituency which I fondly refer to as, a powerful consistency. It is with profound gratitude and appreciation that I welcome you to this valedictory Press Conference is being organized to achieve dual purpose:
One, it is to acquaint you, gentlemen of the press with the recent developments in the Secretariat with the recruitment and assumption of offices of key management staff in fulfillment of Councils acceptance of the recommendations of the KPMG Strategy Advisory Service Report.
On the other hand, the Press Conference is also to inform you of the change of guard at the helms of affairs of the Secretariat and to formally unveil to you the new Director-General of the Institute and his team.
A very important aspect of the of the second reason for out gathering here this afternoon is to show appreciation and gratitude for your co-operation and support throughout my tenure as Director-General of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigerian and to appeal and solicit that you extend the same level of co-operation to my successor.
In line with the Condition of Service of the Institute, I will formally retire from the service of the Institute on Wednesday, 20th July, 2016 when I will turn 60.
Mr. Richard OlutayoBorokini who has assumed office is hereby presented to you as the 7th Director-General of our 57years old Institute.
Mr. Borokini, a seasoned professional and astute administrator retired as the Managing Director of REAN.
He will be supported in the management of the Institute by Mrs. Ndubisi-ChukwuUju who also recently assumed office as the Deputy Director-General together with other directors.
In the course of our tour of duty, we recorded the following modest contributions:
o Successfully overcoming the crisis of confidence that was so strong and pervasive at the time of our ascension of office.
o Regaining the confidence and patronage of critical stakeholders for the Institute’s programmes by way of endorsements/sponsorships.
o Ensuring full and Successful implementation of each successive president’s programme and theme.
o Instilling the culture of prudency, transparency and accountability in the management of the Institute’s funds and resources.
o Successful take-off of the College of Insurance and Financial Management.
o Achieving a more purposeful, cohesive and organized Insurance Industry with the coming together of all Arms of the Industry under the aegis of the Insurance Industry Consultative Council (IICC).
o Midwifing the first ever Insurance Industry Mega Conference.
o Fostering closer ties with the Industry’s regulator i.e. National Insurance Commission by playing a key role in the Board.
o Entrenching a new work culture which emphasizes, pro-activeness, promptness in service delivery, courtesy and team spirit.
o Shortening the examination processing time such that examination results are released within 30 days of the last paper as against the average 7 weeks it used to take.
o Expanding the sphere of CIIN Examinations to the East African sub-region with the establishment of a CIIN Examination Centre in Kigali, Rwanda.
o Increased benefits for CIIN members cutting across various cadre:
• Group Life Assurance Policies for Past Presidents and Governing Council Members.
• Group Life Assurance Policies for all financially up-to-date Associate Members.
• Special rebates for students of Tertiary Institutions writing the Institute’s professional examinations.
• Successful negotiation of rebates with major hotels across the country for the benefit of members.
o Renewed advocacy on the promotion of Insurance education in Nigeria through:
 Publication and free distribution of the “Insurance Textbook for Secondary Schools” to some States in the federation.
 Donation of the Institute’s Course Books to all Tertiary Institutions offering Insurance as a Course of Study.
 Donation of IT equipments to and furnishing of study centres of three fully CIIN accredited Tertiary Institutions.
o A suberb working relationship with members of the Press/ The powerful constituency.

A BRIEF PROFILE OF MR KOLA AHMED
Kola Ahmed is a 1981 Insurance graduate from the University of Lagos. He also holds the Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Business Management, obtained in 2001 from the Lagos State University, Ojo.
Born July 20th 1956, Kola Ahmed is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (UK) obtained in 2006, having qualified as Associate of the same Institute in 1990. He was elected Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria in 2007 thus joining the prestigious Society of Fellows of the CIIN.
He started his Insurance career in 1982 from Hogg Robinson Nigeria and rose to the position of Assistant Manager before joining Koguna Babura and Company in 1986 as Underwriting Manager. In 1991, Mr. Ahmed moved to Nigerian-French Insurance Company Ltd, rising to the position of Deputy General Manager (Technical) in 2003, a position he maintained until July 2007 before joining AIICO General Insurance Company Ltd following the recapitalization exercise which merged Nigerian-French with AIICO.
He left AIICO in June 2009 for KRABOND Insurance brokers Ltd as Managing Director, a position he held until joining the CIIN on Monday April 2nd 2012 as the Deputy Director General.
Kola Ahmed is a passionate Professional whose experience in service of the Insurance Industry is impeccable. He is a member of the Society of Fellows (UK) and member of the CII (UK) Faculty of Underwriting, and also of the CII (UK) Faculty of Insurance Broking. He had served the Nigerian Insurance Industry in varying capacities, including
• CIIN Examiner since 1994
• CIIN Chief Examiner/Moderator since 2004
• Chairman, Organizing Committee of NCIB National Conference (1990)
• Member, NIA’s Executive Committee of the Marine Offices Committee (1993-1996)
• Assistant Secretary, Marine Offices committee (1994)
Mr. K. R. Ahmed is a member of many notable professional and social bodies including:
• Fellow, The Chartered insurance Institute, UK
• Fellow, Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria
• Member, Society of Fellows of The CII, UK
• Member, Faculty of Insurance Broking of The CII, UK
• Member, Nigeria Institute of Management
• Member, Lagos Country Club
• Member, Great Eagles Club of Nigeria
• He has also attended a battery of local and International courses.
