The Lagos State Government has credited N466.855 million to the Retirement Savings Accounts (RSAs) of 187 of its retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) for the month of July. More retirees from the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) benefitted from this batch of payment.

A statement by Lawal Basirat,
Public Affairs Officer, Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC) said the presentation took place on Monday, 30th and Tuesday, 31st July, 2018 at the Office Complex.

The Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pensions, Dr. Akintola Benson Oke stated that despite the scarcity of funds, His Excellency, Akinwunmi Ambode still holds the pensioners in high esteem by making sure he releases funds every month for the payment of their entitlements. He said that 9,401 retirees have been paid under the present administration a huge amount of money which is approximately N38.5 billion.

The Director-General, LASPEC, Mrs. Folasade Onanuga in her welcome address said that the Lagos State Government will continue to play the Mother-hen role.

She also used the medium to advice retirees amongst others on the importance of putting their houses in order for any eventuality by making sure they write their Wills whilst they are still active.

In addition, she said that they should be active in retirement, because the more they move around, the better for their health.

In appreciation, two of the retirees, Orisayomi Olafemi and Mrs. Adewole C.B commended the effort of the Governor in accelerating the process of payment of retiree entitlements, which they said could not be compared with what obtained in other States.
