The Lagos State Government in the month of February, 2016 paid 243 retirees from the Mainstream Civil Service, Local Governments, State Universal Basic Education, Teachers Establishment and Pension Office and other Parastatals Pension entitlements worth N904 million.

A statement by Mrs Ajoke Lawal of the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC) said the payment brought the number of retirees paid between August last year to February, 2016 to 2,652, adding that the total accrued rights paid by the State government from the afomentioned month to date is N11. 556 billion.

According to her, at the presentation of the 24th Retirement Benefit Bond Certificates, which took place on Monday, 29th February 2016, the Director- General, LASPEC, Mrs. Folashade Onanuga urged the retirees to be very careful of “unscrupulous elements” who might want to deprive them of their entitlements through lofty business ideas.

She also used the medium to appeal to the beneficiaries be wary of fraudsters who put calls through to retirees, informing them of alleged short payments in their entitlements, adding that the fraudsters request for token payments into specified bank accounts so that the short fall amount can be paid by National Pension Commission (PENCOM) in Abuja.

She reiterated that no retiree in Lagos State Service has accrued rights to collect from Federal Government and any one requesting to help them process an entitlement that is non existent is just a scammer.

She also said the Office has taken step to sensitize the State’s employees on the activities of the Pension fraudsters and Government was also investigating the reports received from some retirees on the matter.

She reiterated the fact that in Lagos State Pension Commission, terminal entitlements are processed strictly on merit based on time and nature of exit. She also stated that anyone who offers inducement to any of the Commission’s staff for quick processing of entitlements is just wasting the resources available to him/her.

The retirees, who were very happy thanked the Lagos State Governor for the commitment he has for their welfare. They prayed fervently for his good health and also for continuity of his government.
