Lagos state pays retirees N859m

The Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Akinwunmi Ambode has released the sum of N859, 059 million to pay accrued pension rights to 158 Public Service retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme for the month of May.

A statement by Mrs Ajoke Lawal of Public Affairs Unit, Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC), said while addressing the retirees at the 51st Retirement Benefit Bond Certificate Presentation Ceremony on yesterday at the Conference Room of the Commission, the Commissioner, Ministry of Estab, Training & Pensions, Dr. Benson Oke Akintola, posited that 9,045 retirees have had accrued pension rights of over N37,546,464 billion paid into their Retirement Savings Accounts from inception of this administration to date.

He said, “Despite the fact that the funding obligations of the current pension scheme is high, His Excellency is committed to the well being of the Pensioners and the active staff. Hence funds are released regularly to pay staff salaries and Pensioners dues.

Speaking earlier during her welcome Address, the Director-General – LASPEC, Mrs. Folashade Onanuga informed the retirees that the present administration was fine tuning the process of rolling out benefits that would make life easier for the retirees.
She implored the retirees to study the leaflets distributed by the State Government in respect of the two options for receipt of monthly Pension entitlements, before they go for the one of their choice.

The retirees could not hide their joy and took turns to pray for the Governor and his executive/team.
