The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has canvassed the mandatory use of the National Identification Number (NIN) in passengers’ manifests for road travels.

The Head IEU, NIMC Elias Okafor, said this in a paper entitled: ‘NIMC Nationwide Ecosystem Enrolment: Essence, Approach, Benefits and Challenges’ delivered at the recently held
NIMC, ID4D Two-Day Roundtable with Online Publishers in Lagos.

He submitted that the integration would enhance the accuracy and security of passenger information and streamline the verification process.

He noted that NIN would serve as a unique identifier, allowing for quick and efficient verification of passenger identity during various stages of travel, such as check-in and security checks, adding that the use of NIN on manifests would improve data security and privacy by ensuring that only verified information is used during travel processes.

He also noted that NIN registration is free, whilst imploring the public to report any accredited NIMC agent that demand for money before registration.
