Insurance operators from different arms of the industry today gathered to celebrate the past President/Chairman, Governing Council, Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) and former Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Reinsurance Corporation, Lady Isioma Chukwuma, who graciously retires after many years of meritorious service.

The operators at a special retirement party organised by the Office Representative Committee (ORC) of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) in honour of Lady Chukwuma, in Lagos, poured praises, encomiums, accolades on her for her sterling qualities and exemplary character.

The President/Chairman, Governing Council, CIIN who is also the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Consolidated Hallmark Insurance Plc, Eddie Efekoha, described the celebrant as a dedicated and hardworking professional who has braced all odds to reach the peak of her career.

“Lady Isioma Chukwuma, started as a Graduate Trainee with the Nigerian Reinsurance Corporation but ended as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the company. This can only be achieved through focus, determination, dedication and hard work,” he posited.

He implored other professionals to emulate her sterling qualities, and commended her for her immense contributions to the growth of CIIN and the insurance industry generally, whilst soliciting her continued support for the industry.

The Deputy President and the Director General of CIIN Sir. Muftau Oyegunle and Richard Borokini, while commenting separately on Lady Isioma described her as a good team leader and a mentor.

According to Sir. Oyegunle, “I personally worked with her and she’s such a humble and supportive fellow and I had a good working relationship with her.”

Borokini described her as a goal-getter lauded her culture of punctuality to events and dedication to duties, which he said has shaped his life positively just as he called on others to emulate her sterling qualities.

He said Lady Chukwuma was the one that signed his employment letter as the DG of CIIN when he joined the institute in 2015, commended her contribution to the growth of the Institute, noting also that she was the one who started the renovation of the present CIIN Corporate office in 2016.

Dr. (Mrs.) Bola Onigbogi, President, Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) who was represented by Governing Council Member, NCRIB, Mrs. Rashidat Shittu, noted that Lady Chukwuma has paid her dues in the insurance profession in Nigeria, having meritoriously served the ORC and the CIIN as president.

“On reflections, this CIIN past President brought class, humility and panache to the Institute during her tenure to the extent that she has become a reference of an ideal woman in leadership position in our industry.

“She utilized her tenure to strengthen the bond of relationship between the CIIN and other constituent bodies including the NCRIB. She also strengthened the various committees of the Institute, believing in them as the engine room for the growth and progress of our dynamic institute. As President of the NCRIB, I must say that some of the virtues of Lady Isioma Chukwuma are sources of emulation for me in my present task of leadership.

“An occasion of this kind is an opportunity for me to note that insurance industry operators must continually strive to play up the general well being of the industry and ethics against selfish or egoistic interests, which often has a shot span reward. We must also strive at all times to maintain the strong bond of friendship and comradeship that strewn us together as professionals for the growth of our industry’, she said.

She noted that more than ever before, the insurance clients are looking at operators as one entity (the insurance people) and are as such not bordered whether operators see themselves as Insurance Brokers, Underwriters or Loss Adjusters. Happily, this was the same principle and belief that the celebrant of today personified throughout her active service in the industry, she added.

“What else can I say than to wish Lady Chukwuma well? She has served with humility, courage, integrity and poise- characteristic of a Forthright Lady that she is. To me, Lady Chukwuma represents the embodiment of what is good, fine and admirable! We shall continue to relish good memories of your services to the insurance profession,” she posited.

Some past Presidents of CIIN and presidents of other associations in the industry who eulogized the exemplary qualities of Lady Chukwuma in their goodwill messages at the event included, Bola Temuwo; Fatai Lawal; Mrs.Seyi Ifaturoti; Ralph Opara, past President, Institute of Loss Adjusters of Nigeria (ILAN); Mrs. Ose Oluyanwo, President, Professional Insurance Ladies Association (PILA) amongst others.

They all prayed that God should grant the celebrant good health and long life.

Lady Chukwuma thanked the ORC for keeping the flag flying and other insurance professionals for the honour done her and pledged her continued support for the growth of the industry.

Her husband Sir. Chukwuma also appreciated the operators for honouring his wife
