The former President, Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Plum Insurance Brokers Limited, Mrs. Laide Osijo, today, commissioned her multi-million Naira head office complex located at 93, Old Yaba Road, Ebute Metta, Lagos.

The beautify edifice was commissioned by the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who lauded Osijo for the feat and prayed God to grant her long life as she celebrated her 65th birthday,

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Osijo, who attributed the feats to God Almighty, also noted that the story of Plum Insurance Brokers actually started in 1991 when the company was registered, but started operation a year after.

She said the company had its teething period, like most corporate entities, characterized by low clientele base and the need to break through into the market space which was then occupied by the high and the mighty. But with faith in God, tenacity of purpose, diligence and the grace of God, Plum was able to overcome all besetting challenges, turning them to stepping stones for greatness.

“Personally, it was a trying period for me as the pioneer as I had to combine the company’s running with challenging family life. It was a period that my children were growing and needed family care which fell squarely on my shoulders. But in all these, God proved Himself faithful and merciful to me. He sent several “destiny helpers” to me, too numerous to mention. God providentially made me to ride on the shoulders of these great men and women to achieve the modest feats that I have recorded in the profession today.

“It is no mean feat that Plum Insurance Brokers Ltd provided me the platform to accomplish the landmark feat of being the first female President in the annals of our Council during which period the Council recorded phenomenal feats,” she said.

She said the idea of building an office for Plum Insurance Brokers was borne out of the desire to have a befitting office for the company and etch its place in the comity of respected insurance broking professionals in Nigeria, adding that there is no doubt that the edifice would be a thing of pride, not only to Plum, but also the Nigerian Insurance Industry.

The President of the NCRIB, Dr. Mrs. Bola Onigbogi, said: “NCRIB President, I must not miss this opportunity to remind existing and potential insurance clients about the place of Registered Insurance Brokers in all insurance arrangements.

“Insurance Brokers, like Plum, are the professional insurance intermediaries that help clients (be they corporate or individual) maximize the value of their insurances. They also help them to pursue their claims when a loss occurs. Wise people engage the services of Brokers in their insurances to avoid stories that touch!

“I must use also this avenue to commiserate with those who lost their valued properties in the fire that gutted some houses at Martins Street in Marina Lagos yesterday and the market fire that occurred in Kaduna last week. It is quite sad to see what individuals laboured for going in flames,” she said.

According to her, this catastrophic events provides an avenue to call on all and sundry to imbibe insurance for protection of their valued properties. Adding that as the common saying in our Council goes “Whatever is worth having is worth insuring!”

She said the government also has a responsibility to always encourage and enforce compulsory insurance, especially as it relates to valuable assets so as to mitigate losses when they occur, adding that there is no amount of palliatives given by government and well-meaning individuals after a loss that could succor a loss like insurance would do.
