The Funmi Babington-Ashaye (FBA) Foundation has announced plans to hold its 2nd Annual Mental Health Awareness tagged; Walkathon on November 16, 2024 in Lagos.

The event with the theme: ‘Honest Conversation With Coach Lola’ will hold at 34, Norman Williams Street, SW Ikoyi, Lagos, starting from 8:00AM.

The President of FBA Mentoring Program and Lead Consultant, GBM Consulting Limited, Coach Lola Adeleye, will be the Guest Speaker of the event, while Mrs. Aderonke Adenekan is the Event Coordinator.

The event lecture will run from 8:00AM to 9:30AM, while the Walkathon from 9:30AM to 11:00AM.

Coach Adeleye implored women to attend the event to enable them to lend their voices in ending the stigma around mental health.

Coach Adeleye said having good mental health does not mean feeling good all the time. We all have our downs and ups. Life is full of unavoidable risks, worries and losses, which affect everyone. Sometimes difficult feelings pass quickly and we bounce back. Sometimes we struggle for much longer. This can happen to any of us,” she posited.

According to her, when mental health is not so good, life feels more of a struggle, people might often feel sad or tearful, and hopeless and exhausted.

Continuing, she said they might feel under unbearable stress, or often worried about bad things happening to them or people they care about, adding that all of these are very common experiences.

“Feeling down, anxious or stressed can mean we don’t have much energy for activities such as work or study, ‘life admin’ and looking after ourselves and others. It can be hard to keep going.

“Feeling like this for a while could be a sign that something else in our lives is wrong, or that we need help. It is also a natural reaction, if we’ve had a major loss or shock, such as bereavement, unemployment, divorce or a serious health problem.

“Some things are easier to change and some problems may be beyond our control. Sometimes we need help, with our mental health or with the situations causing us to struggle – for instance, debts or relationship problems. In these situations, the sooner we get support, the better,” she posited.

She noted the issues around mental health require great concern, hence the Foundation is at the forefront driving awareness to enable the public to get the needed education.

The Foundation, which started in 2020 has grown extensively in a short time and provides learning opportunities for members, career opportunities and business insight, a networking platform, one-on-one mentoring program, personal and professional development forum/retreat whilst maintaining continuous discussions on a healthy work-life balance.
