NIPR woos information officers

The Nigerian Institute of Public relations has made case for compulsory membership of the Institute for all Information
Officers in the employment of the government nationwide.

Giving this call was the Chairman of the Ogun State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Mr Tope Adaramola
during a courtesy visit paid by the Chapter on the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Dayo Adeneye in
Abeokuta, recently.

According to the NIPR, Information Officers essentially perform PR functions for the government and their compulsory enrolment
with the Institute will be most suitable as it will continually apprise them with requisite skills required of them to perform optimally
on the job.

Adaramola stated that the need for Information Officers to be adept in opinion research and evaluation will assist governments
to effectively put in place policy decisions that are tailor- made to meet the ever dynamic yearnings and aspirations of the people and as such project government in positive light

“Most of the policy disconnect between the government and the people that we see today are caused by unscientific analysis of the needs of the governed by government and it must be noted that the era of leading or governing by intuition is over” Adaramola noted.

The Institute also used the platform to solicit for the assistance of the state government in the allocation of land for its permanent secretariat, noting that the professional body was one of the earliest to be domiciled in the state.

Responding, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dayo Adeneye disclosed that no government could do well without collaborating with professionals and their associations, given their competence, discipline and ethical standards.

He promised that the state government would collaborate with the Chapter, particularly in the forth coming 40th anniversary of the state and its Economic cum Investment forum.
