The Delta State Governorship Election petition sitting in Asaba, the state capital, has upheld the election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
The tribunal also dismiss the challenge posed by Olorogun O’tegha Emerhor of the All Progressives Congress.
The Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Asaba has also dismissed the petition filed by Chief Great Ogboru of the Labour Party challenging the election of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa of the PDP.
Ogboru had approached the tribunal alleging that the election of April 11 conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was done in substantial breach of the Electoral Act and the guidelines for the election.
He further alleged that the election was marred by corrupt practices and over-voting.
Delivering a judgement that lasted about three hours ten minutes, chairman of the three-man tribunal, Justice Nasir Gunmi, averred that the petitioners adduce credible evidence to prove the allegations in line with Section 31 of the Evidence Act.
Justice Gunmi, therefore, dismissed the petition and awarded a cost of N150,000.00 against the petitioners.
