Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, has said the State Civil Service has been repositioned to enable workers perform effectively.

He said this is because his administration has gone all out to implement, on the largest scale imaginable, series of programmes that are designed to transform Lagos State for the better.

The Governor, represented by Commissioner, Lagos State Ministry Of Establishments, Training And Pensions, Dr. Akintola, Benson spoke at the opening session of a training programme Tagged: ‘Management And Execution Of Projects’ organized by the Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC) held in Lagos.

He said, as we all know, in order to execute these programmes, the input and support of the civil service is required, thus the need for the State to continue to train officers of the civil service.

He added that the training which is designed to ensure that officers of the civil service are effectively managing their time and are being productive is of paramount importance.

He said: “Good time management enables people to work smarter, not harder so that they get more done in less time, even when time is tight and pressures are high. Failing to managetime damages effectiveness and causes stress. The focus of this training is the ‘Management and Execution of Projects.”Project management includes identifying requirements, establishing clear and achievable objectives, balancing the competing demands from the different stakeholders and ensuring that a commonality of purpose is achieved.

“It is clear that unless there is a structured and scientific approach to the practice of management, organizations would find themselves adrift in the Ocean called organizational development and hence would be unable to meet the myriad challenges that the modern era throws at them. Hence, the importance of project management to organizations cannot be emphasized more and the succeeding paragraphs provide some reasons why organizations must take the practice of project management seriously.

“The training is to give insights into the immediate skills that will help officers of the Lagos State Public Service to automate tasks and become more efficient and effective in delivering value and meeting set goals and to provide a framework within which subsequent actions by the organization can be taken.

“Furthermore, many organisational projects involve large-scale planning that affects every departments. Implementing the project may mean dealing with human resources, budgetary and supply constraints. Accredited project managers are skilled in project management techniques specific to dealing with one-time projects. They can create plans to manage interdependence and address resource conflict. Organizations that use project management to monitor and control processes and schedules can more effectively complete their projects on time and on budget.”
