ADDRESS BY MR. SUNNY ADEDA, CHAIRMAN EDDIE EFEKOHA INVESTITURE COMMITTEE AT THE PRE-INVESTITURE PRESS CONFERENCE ON FRIDAY 20 JULY, 2018 IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBER OF THE CIIN, 27 LAGOS STREET, EBUTE METTA
Protocols
I am delighted to welcome you to this event and the opportunity given to address you on the activities for the change of leadership baton at our Institute. Permit me to acknowledge the support of the media in the projection of the Insurance Industry. The healthy relationship with the media, cannot be quantified. This support has contributed greatly to our collective drive to properly position our industry in the mind of Nigerians. The focus of this press conference is to intimate you with preparations for the Investiture of the 49th President of the Institute.
The Institute prides itself as having a robust succession plan which has continued to ensure a seamless and rancor-free transition from one President to another. Any potential candidate to the office of the President is expected to have moved through the leadership ladder without blemish.
The journey to the Institutes presidency engenders commitment, hard work and consistentmembership of the Governing Council. Continuous membership is essential, but not adequate to make anybody the President of the Institute. We ensure that such persons must be fit and proper and possess outstanding qualities as well as an uninhibited zest to serve selflessly.
The Investiture Ceremony scheduled to hold on 24th of July, 2018 at Intercontinental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, marks the climax of activities heralding the ascendancy of Eddie Efekoha to the exalted presidency of the CIIN. Ladies and Gentlemen, the election of Eddie Efekoha as the President of the Institute by the Governing Council is an attestation to the fact that he has the outstanding qualities required of anybody to become the President of the Institute. He therefore deserves to be celebrated for this recognition.
The Investiture Committee which is chaired by me and 12 other members has done so much to make the celebration of Eddie Efekoha a memorable event. The man Eddie Agberia Efekoha was born in August 1959 in Delta State. He attended Nana College Warri and the Institute of Continuing Education for his Advance Level.
He proceeded to University of Lagos and bagged B.Sc. (Hons) Insurance Degree in 1985. He returned to the University of Lagos for Master of Business Administration Degree from 1991 to 1994. Eddie qualified as an Associate of Chartered Insurance Institute U.K. in 1987 and a Fellow in 1991.
Efekoha started his professional career in Insurance at Hogg Robinson Nigeria as a Senior Officer in 1986, worked with Glanvill Enthoven and Co. (Nig) between 1988 and 1997. He became the Managing Director of Fountain Insurance Brokers in 1997 and remained in that position until 2003 when he joined Consolidated Risk Insurers as the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
Today, he is the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Consolidated Hallmark Insurance, a position he assumed in 2007.
Eddie Efekoha has served the Institute in various capacities since becoming a member in 1988. He was at various times the,
– Deputy President of the Institute
– Governing Council Member since 2005
– Treasurer of the Institute
– Chairman Education Committee
– Deputy Chairman, Membership Committee
– Member, Merit Award Committee
– Chairman, Board of College of Insurance and Financial Management
The Investiture Committee has, in honour of our professional colleague, put together the Ceremony during which Eddie Efekoha will be formally decorated as the 49th President of the Institute. The ceremony will hold in the African Ballroom of Intercontinental Hotel, Plot 52, Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island Lagos on 24th July, 2018 commencing from 4.00pm.
The event which will be chaired by Professor Bruce Onobrakpeya MFR will be attended by over five hundred colleagues, friends and well-wishers of Eddie from all walks of life. The request for dinner tickets has been overwhelming and surpassed projection. We look forward to a memorable ceremony.
As part of the Investiture Ceremony a golf tournament has been put together by the Golfer friends of Eddie Efekoha. The special golf event will hold on July, 28th 2018 at the Ikeja Golf Club. The choice of Ikeja is preferred because the current Captain is a past President of our Institute. About 150 golfers from various clubs will be teeing-off in the morning to celebrate the new President of our Institute.
There will be a closing dinner on the same day after the golf tournament. This event is aimed at bridging the gap between Insurance Practitioners and the Consumers of Insurance.
I have deliberately avoided mentioning the programmes of Mr. Eddie Efekoha as the President of the Institute. This Press Conference is to intimate you with the activities lined up for his investiture. I promise that the Committee will arrange another press conference post-investiture where the action plans for his tenure will be presented. I am sure of his preparedness to make the difference, and I can assure you that he will perform to expectation.
Once again, I thank you for honouring our invitation.
O
