Young professionals and future leaders of the Insurance Industry. I feel a sense of pride and fulfilment today on this occasion, the first bootcamp for young professionals organised by the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria under the Mentorship program for young insurance professionals. Today, we take one more step as an industry in the quest to groom a new set of industry leaders.
The only thing constant about change is change itself. The world is constantly changing especially as it relates to the gadgets we use, social, economic trends, consumer behaviour and so many other things that govern our everyday lives. I can assure you that in the next two years, a lot of things that are the hub of activities now might become obsolete. Cars are now being powered by electricity, whatsapp is introducing a payment platform that will greatly disrupt the financial services sector and robotics is gaining more ground as the days go by.
As professionals, there is a need to stay relevant in the midst of all these disruptions. The only way to do this is to create a reputation that is synonymous with excellence, ingenuity and professionalism. To attain this profile is not easy, it takes a lot of sacrifice and today, you are making one of those sacrifices required to get to the top.
Early in the year, the Institute hosted the elders forum a programme regularly held to recognise elders of the insurance industry who have contributed to ensure we have the industry in which we practice our profession. In that room were so many I looked up to as industry mentors and who I modelled my life after. .
The potential that lies in each and every-one of you is enormous and the best part of it is that the key to unlock these potentials lies within you. This program was conceptualized to help you walk in freedom to find greatness. I believe in everyone here and I am of the opinion you will all go on to become change agents. For this program we have one of the finest speakers and an authority in Leadership training and personal development, Mr. Niyi Adesanya. We also have some of the brightest minds in the Insurance Industry here today. Permit me to acknowledge Mr Segun Omosehin, Mr. Tunde Mimiko and Mr. Moruf Apampa. I wish to appreciate Mr. Dayo Alao, Mr Femi Kolajo and Mrs. Hannah Oyebanjo and all who have come together to ensure you leave here with an experience.
You are the future of Insurance and in the not too distant future, I believe the Institute will be a reflection of the constructive input of everyone here and those that you will inspire outside this room. The institute has provided this forum as a platform for you to take flight from. It is my hope that you soar far higher than we will ever imagine.
Men make history and not the other way round. Progress only occurs when you seize the opportunity to change things for the better. Only through hardwork, dedication and focus can you become the leaders that the industry and the society needs. I urge you all to learn from the distinguished resource persons that have offered their time and intellectual resources to help you grow. In the end I hope that you all continue to strive for perfection and ultimately attain greatness.
