I am indeed delighted to have another opportunity to stand before and address professional colleagues and leaders of our noble industry on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee edition of the Insurance Professionals’ Forum.
It gives me great pleasure to extend to you all a very warm welcome. It is an opportuned time to renew contacts and discuss problems of mutual interest.
I also consider it a great honour and privilege today for us as an industry to have in our midst on this landmark occasion, the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun as the Special Guest of Honour and one of the most notable traditional ruler in the Country; distinguished colleagues, permit me to formally welcome to this great occasion the Ooni of Ife, His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II as the Royal Father of this occasion.
I would like to specially welcome the Commissioner for Insurance, Alhaji Mohammed Kari and also appreciate him for lending his weight to the Forum as usual. His forthright leadership of the Commission has continued to engender growth in the Industry.
The Insurance Professionals’ Forum which started in 1991 during the Presidency of Sir Dipo Bailey has created a platform for Insurance Professionals to exchange ideas for the improvement of the Industry and the profession.
I must reiterate that it is always very heart-warming to be in the midst of professional colleagues in a gathering which is renowned for its significance as the single most effective platform for deliberating on and contributing to the issues pertinent to the sustenance of the ideals of our professional calling, our Industry and its proper positioning in the financial services sector of the National Economy.
I am of the firm belief, that the 2016 Professionals’ Forum will be a rewarding experience for us as individuals and Insurance Professionals. The 2016 edition has as its theme; “THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY, NATIONAL ECONOMIC SHIFTS & NEW BUSINESS REALITIES”. It focuses on the opportunities inherent in the economic diversification agenda of the Federal Government.
It is gratifying to note that the Theme of the Conference covers a wide range of interesting items relating to the National Economy, the Insurance Industry and the wellbeing of practitioners. The array and diversity of Speakers has raised the expectation of delegates for very rich presentations. The Guest Speakers will discuss the opportunities non-oil sector for the Insurance Industry, and take delegates through the required new business models for corporate profitability.

It is common knowledge that the simultaneous development of the various sectors of the economy will energize economic activities, promote investment and impact on the demand for other ancillary support services such as Insurance. The Insurance professionals must therefore key into the vision of the government’s economic diversification activities and position the industry appropriately.

I wish at this juncture to commend the organizing Committee led by the immediate Past President, Mr. Bola Temowo for a job very well done in organizing a Forum that guarantees a rewarding experience for everyone present.

As I conclude, I must state the theme of my Presidency; CONSOLIDATING THE GAINS OF THE INDUSTRY FOR NATIONAL ECONOMIC GROWTH has been vigorously pursued during this Presidency with varying degrees of successes. We have still not gotten to our desired goal, but I belief that with concerted efforts of the Institute coupled with the support of Insurance Professionals and Practitioners, we shall achieve an Insurance Industry of our dreams that can contribute meaningfully to the country’s GDP.

As I take my seat, I wish to welcome you once again to the 2016 Insurance Professionals’ Forum and wish you a rewarding experience.

Thank you for your attention

LADY ISIOMA CHUKWUMA, ACII, AIIN
