SPEECH DELIVERED BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE NIGERIAN COUNCIL OF REGISTERED INSURANCE BROKERS, MR. EMMANUEL KAYODE OKUNOREN, FIIN, FCIB AT THE AUGUST 2017 EDITION OF NCRIB MEMBERS’ EVENING HELD ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 29, 2017 IN LAGOS
• The Managing Director, Zenith Prudential Life Assurance Limited,

• Distinguished members of the NCRIB Governing Board,
• All our guests here present,
• Gentlemen of the Press,
• Ladies and Gentlemen,

It is my greatest delight to welcome you all to August edition of NCRIB Members’ Evening being hosted by Zenith Life Assurance Limited. Permit me to ride on this platform to appreciate various supports that I have enjoyed since my emergence as the 18th President of the Council. I must place on record that the task of leading our Council, sustaining the legacy of our founding fathers, making our profession worth the while and leaving good legacy behind for upcoming professionals have been so enormous. It is almost two years now that this administration came on board, I must confess that it has been two years of assiduous work and I like to appreciate the staunch support that I got from the Board and all members, without which, these modest achievements would not have been possible. I am persuaded beyond reasonable doubts that the herculean tasks of ensuring that our vocation becomes an enviable profession has been sustained, even though, we are not yet there, but we are no more where we used to be.

I like to congratulate Zenith Life Assurance, the host of tonight Members’ Evening. At the appropriate time, the Management team of Zenith Prudential Life Assurance, ably led here today by its Managing Director/CEO, Mrs. Chukwuemeke Igumbor, will be called to address this august gathering. Going by antecedents, I am quite sure that the Managing Director will be a delight to listen to. I can confidently assure you that after listening to her, you can choose to either put all your eggs in one basket of Zenith.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE AND ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

I am most delighted to inform you that preparation towards the 2017 National Insurance Brokers Conference & Exhibition and Annual General Meeting of our noble Council is on course. The Secretariat and the Events Organizing Committee are now dotting the I’s and crossing the t’s to ensure a very successful outing. The event is slated to hold from October 17, 2017 (which is the AGM); October 18 (which is the National Insurance Conference) and October 19, which is the Investiture of the 19th President in the person of Mr Shola Tinubu. I want to believe that the in-coming President is seriously warming up to take our Council to a lofty height that every one of us would be proud of. All the events would be held in Lagos and members would be duly advised, shortly. I implore you all to please block your diaries for those days, because, it promises to be educative, interactive and informative.

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS TRIP

Barring any unforeseen circumstance, I will be leading a delegation of at least eleven members of the Council on an International Business Trip to Houston, Texas between September 15 – 21, 2017. The theme is “Houston Marine Insurance Seminar”. It will be recalled that I have openly expressed this since my emergence that one of my cardinal focus at this helm of affairs is to devote my attention, passion and experience towards making the broking profession and the NCRIB a source of envy to other professionals. This has been evidenced in all our activities since the last two years. Permit me to reiterate that all our activities were geared towards adding value. All our international trips were very successful and very rewarding, as they provided opportunity to fraternize with other insurance practitioners across the globe. Ideas were exchanged to re-sharpen our business acumen and I believe that these ideas and knowledge are not going to be wasted. Even though, the opportunity to log into the oncoming Business Trip has since closed, I am using my prerogative of office to re-open it for ONLY those with valid US Visa.

ADDING VALUE TO MEMBERS
You would recall that one of the focus of the Governing Board is to continually give value to members and enhance their compliance with regulatory requirements expected of them. I am most delighted that the Board has just approved the proposal for a shared service agreement where a software is designed to assist members comply with NAICOM requirements and avoid penalties. Circulars explaining the full detains of this initiative will be circularized to members.

CONCULSION

Permit me to state that all that starts well ends well, It is noteworthy for me to state that this Members’ Evening will be the last in the series to be held under my presidency. I cannot thank you enough for your support for making my tenure and this particular programme remarkably successful
Once again, I thank you all and God bless.
EMMANUEL KAYODE OKUNOREN, FIIN, FCIB
PRESIDENT/CHAIRMAN, GOVERNING BOARD
