Benue State will soon commence contributory pension scheme in view of its numerous benefits, according to Mr George Ede, its Head of Service.
“Plans have been concluded for the scheme to take-off. It has been accepted nationwide and Benue will not be left out,” Ede said in Makurdi on Wednesday, when the Association of Pension Fund Administrators paid him a courtesy call.
He said that government was anxious to improve the welfare of retirees, “especially now that the country is facing harsh economic challenges”.
Ede said that a committee to work out the modalities for the migration to the contributory scheme had been set up, and promised to impress it on members to fast track the migratory process.
Earlier, Mr Theophilus Kumun, President of the association, had informed Ede that many states had keyed into the scheme while others were at various stages of implementation.
He lamented that Benue was yet to key into the scheme, and urged the state government to consider doing so.
