PenCom conducts 54 sensitisation workshops in one quarter, woos prospective pension contributors

Determined to increase number of Retirement Savings Account (RSA) holders in Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) and Micro Pension Plan, National Pension Commission (PenCom) said it conducted 54 sensitisation/enlightenment workshops across the country, in fourth quarter 2022.

According to PenCom, five sensitisation/enlightenment workshops were conducted in North East; seven, North Central; eight, North West; 12, South West; 10, South East; seven, South South and one in Abuja.

PenCom noted that its Zonal Offices in November 2022, represented it at various schools within their respective jurisdictions, to commemorate the World Savings Day 2022, adding that the global money week is an annual global event which seeks to create awareness campaigns on the importance of ensuring that young people, from an early age, are financially aware and gradually acquire knowledge on how to earn and save money, acquire skills, the right attitudes and behaviours necessary to make sound financial decisions.

It said presentations were made by staff of the zonal offices to the students on the importance of savings as well as setting aside funds to cater for old age.

It noted that educational gift items such as the Commission’s branded exercise books, mathematical sets and calculators were distributed to the participants at the end of programmes.

The pension sector regulator submitted that the North Central Zonal Office (NCZO) visited (11) Health and Private Sector Organisations within its jurisdiction between December 2 and December 16, 2022, noting that purpose of the visits was to ascertain the level of their compliance with the PRA 2014.

It said the representatives of the Commission and the organisations discussed issues pertaining to implementation of the CPS in the respective Organisations.

According to PenCom retirement savings account holders in the CPS were 9.92 as at February 28, 2023 while those micro pension plan stood at 89,327 as at December 31, 2022.
