The National Pension Commission (PenCom) hopes to stem unwholesome practices in the country through provision of houses for workers, Inspen has learnt.
It was gathered that the commission is presently working with different government ministries to see that the set objective is achieved.
The Director-General of PenCom, Mrs. Chinelo Anohu-Amazu, at the just concluded World Pension Summit Africa Special, told journalists that the commission is determined to ensure pension contributors have roofs over their heads, adding that all required modalities are being worked out to take set kick-start the initiative.
“We have seen that when people have a roof over their head, it lowers the need to engage in unwholesome practices. We are trying to prevent things that lead people into unethical practices,” she said.
She the 2004 pension law was rejigged to better the lots of workers, stressing that commission is looking at modalities that would ensure pension funds are secured whilst providing comfortable houses for contributors.
“What we are looking out now is modalities to make sure that pension funds are protected. We do not want a situation where there will be an interplay between the developers; mortgage companies and RSA holders, complaining of houses that are poorly built,” she said.
