The National Pension Commission (PenCom) hopes to attract state governments that are yet to embrace the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) with the proposed houses to be constructed for pension contributors.
According to the Director-General of PenCom, Mrs. Chinelo Anohu-Amazu, the commission has initiated discussions with state governments on to get houses for their workers.
She noted that for states to benefit from the initiative, they have to first sign in to the scheme, stressing that working with state governments would help make houses easily accessible for workers.
“The state governments are very key in this drive and we are talking with them, because they have the lands and also want houses for their workers. I believe reaching out to the state governments could be a faster way to achieve the vision.
“When you talk of provision of houses at the national level, it becomes a bit cumbersome. When we break it down to states, it becomes easy to achieve and that brings to the fact that all the states have to sign in to the contributory pension scheme, so that they can avail themselves that opportunity to provide houses for the indigenes
at a municipal level,” posited.
