As stakeholders set for the review of Pension Reform Act (PRA) 2014, the President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Ayuba Wabba, has cautioned that exemption of some employees that are agitating exit from the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) may defeat the primary purpose of the scheme.

He said this at the retreat on review of the PRA 2014 organised by the National Pension Commission (PenCom) in Abuja.

He cautioned against policies that would undermined the CPS, including agitations to exempt some employees from the scheme.

President, Trade Union Congress (TUC) Comrade Quadri Olaleye, who was represented at the event by an executive member of the Congress, Hafsat Shuaibu, submitted that disruptions in the workplace as a result of COVID-19 pandemic, makes it imperative to review the pension legislation.

Chairman, Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service,, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, said as a Chairman, he has received several submissions from stakeholders requesting a review of some sections of the PRA 2014, stressing that not all the agitations on the review are backed by sound argument, but they show a need for review of the pension legislation.
