AIO endorses Professional Insurance Agents Association

The African Insurance Organisation (AIO) has endorsed and welcomed the Professional Insurance Agents Association (PIAA) into its fold.

Professional Insurance Agents Association is the umbrella body of insurance agents in Africa.

The leadership of AIO, at the association’s recently held annual conference in Nairobi, Kenya, inaugurated the executives of PIAA, which is made up of, Clifford Ochieng as President; Gbadebo Olamerun as vice president; Ms Lizelle Van der Merwe as Secretary General and Graig Bentley as the Organising secretary.

PIAA consists five-member founding association which are; Association of Registered Insurance Agents of Nigeria. [ARIAN]; Association of Kenya professionals Insurance Agent [AKPIA]; Uganda Insurance Agent Association. [UIA]; Financial Intermediaries Association of South Africa [fia] and Insurance Agent Association of Tanzania [ IAAI].

Clifford Ochieng is the founder and current Chairperson of the Association of Kenya Professional Insurance Agents – AKPIA, an institution that was born with a mission to champion and lobby for interest of the public sector and Members whom the association represent.

Having worked with some of the top insurance Companies in Kenya, such as Cooperative Insurance Company Limited (CIC Insurance); Jubilee Life Insurance Company and as Independent Financial Advisor at Old Mutual life (K).

Clifford Ochieng is currently the founder and CEO of AeCord Insurance Agency, which trades in all classes of insurance business in Kenya.

Ochieng played an instrumental role in Kenya Hosting the 48th AIO Conference and General Assembly in Nairobi as he represented the Kenyan delegation at the 47th AIO Conference in Lagos, Nigeria.

He has led the AKPIA in championing for the interests of the more than 13,000 insurance Agents and also participating in key industry decisions affecting the insurance agents, key among them petitioning the industry on Proposed 14 per cent VAT on insurance agents commissions which were later dropped, and petitioning Parliament on the Insurance professionals Bill (inclusion of Insurance Agents in the boards as key Stakeholders) the Bill was rejected by the President.

AKPIA, which he founded has demonstrated value and professionalism while serving and delivering on the interest to the esteemed stakeholders over the years since its formation.

Gbadebo Olamerun is the Chairman-in-Council, ARIAN and Managing Director, Gbadebo Olamerun Agency [GOA], which is an independent insurance agency firm, With two decades of professional insurance transactions in life, non life and annuity businesses, recruitment and retainer- ship expert, master strategists, master drivers for big volume premium initiatives and in-depth experience in insurance agency operations.
Prior to establishing above fast growing subsidiary companies of BVC Investment Group, he has played in the insurance industry occupying various executive capacities including former president – Association of registered insurance agents of Nigeria (ARIAN), National agency coordinator, SUNU Assurances Plc, Agency Manager AIICO Insurance Plc and many other positions.. He is a quick learner who can create new ideas and can communicate clearly and effectively when working with people at all levels.

Gbadebo is a distinguished member of Chartered Institute of Insurance, Nigeria (CIIN), and Member Institute of Chartered Economist. (ICEN), Member Chartered Institute of Cost Management, Fellow of the Association of Registered Insurance Agent of Nigeria. (FARIAN), Fellow of the Professional Excellence Foundation of Nigeria (FPEFON).

He holds an M.SC. in Cost Management from the Ladoke Akintola University (2010), HND in Banking & Finance from Lagos State Polytechnic Isolo, Lagos.

He is happily married with children.
