Almond Productions Limited, ever so concerned about making Nigerians across different class divides know much about insurance and it’s important place in their lives and businesses , has picked up the challenge once again of publishing a Free Pidgin English Newspaper which is geared towards deepening awareness of Insurance and Pension in Nigeria.

The firm having launched ‘ Wetin Insurance Dey Do Sef on Radio in 2013, said it has been overwhelmed by the reach and appeal of the programme to both low net worth and even the elite who do not only listen but call into the show to either ask questions or make contributions, adding that this realization has led to the decision of the company to publish a free Pidgin English Newspaper on Insurance and pension with the first edition coming out in the 8th of May.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Ms. Faith Ughwode, “a situation where only fairly above one per cent of 160 million Nigerians subscribe to insurance is discouraging and unacceptable. This is why Wetin Insurance Dey Do Sef Free Pidgin English Newspaper has come into fruition.”

The paper which will be publish monthly for now is set to address three critical areas of impediment to insurance awareness in Nigeria. Language, Cost and affordability, she said, stressing that there is no doubt today that the Pidgin English is the most acknowledged language of communication. Serious minded copy writers today resort to Pidgin English to pass information across not minding social status.

She maintained that given the current economic situation of the country, not too many people will want to spend their scarce resources on Newspaper that creates awareness on insurance hence the decision to distribute it for Free in the nooks and crannies of the state.

She noted that the distribution will start with Local Governments, Factories, Motor Parks, Taxi Parks, Mechanic Workshops, Markets, Churches and other places.

According to her, the Newspaper has columns such as Insurance Yarn 101, Street Yarn, Pension Tuk Tuk, and Insurance Market which is the Product Mart.

“We hope that the insurance industry will support a publication of this nature to make Nigerians come to grasp with the value of insurance.

“We at Almond Productions believe that Nigeria with this huge population ought to be the biggest market for insurers in Africa if only people are fully aware of what they stand to benefit from subscribing to any applicable form of insurance in a language that is appealing to them.

“There is no doubt that the biggest challenge with retail selling of insurance in a developing country such as Nigeria is Information Gap. Those buying or wanting to buy don’t know much about what they are buying or willing to buy and those selling don’t have in-depth knowledge of what they are selling. Wetin Insurance Dey Do Sef Free Pidgin English Newspaper is set to bridge this gap,” she said.
