CIIN elects Igbiti President, gets five new governing council members

The Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) held its 51st Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday July 13, 2022 in Lagos.

The Institute equally held a Valedictory Service in honour of its 50th President/Chairman of Council, Sir (Dr.) Muftau O. Oyegnle who has successfully completed his two years tenure at the helm of affairs of the CIIN.

Delivering his valedictory address, Sir (Dr.) Oyegunle, stated that the year ended on a positive note for the Institute as surplus was recorded in spite the hurdles of Covid-19 pandemic and the national economic recession.

Highlighting the accomplishments of his leadership, he said his administration achieved the set six- points agenda which are: Digital transformation of the institute; re-energising the institute’s administrative structure; reinforcement of the relevance of professionalism; insurance awareness and youth mentorship; infrastructural development and advocacy and collaboration with various associations in the private sector.

He said: “I must admit that presiding over the affairs of the Institute for the past 24 months has both been challenging and rewarding. Challenging in the sense that, sustaining the successes of my predecessors had not been an easy task but it was rewarding because we have been able to achieve substantially the objectives set at the beginning of my Presidency and confronted other challenges we encountered along the way.

“The successes recorded so far have been as a result of the wonderful support and cooperation of our esteemed Governing Council members, our elders, Chairmen and Members of Committees of Council, National Insurance Commission, Professional Colleagues, support from other bodies within the industry under the aegis of the Insurance Industry Consultative Council (IICC) and the Secretariat Staff,” he said.

Thereafter, Edwin Igbiti was announced as the 51st President Elect while Mrs. Yetunde Ilori stands as the Deputy President Elect of CIIN. In addition to this, five members; Aderinoye Adeniran, Mrs. Adekoya Adeyinka, Abidogun Ademola, Mrs. Arusiuka Adetutua and Olamide Olajolo were elected into the Governing Council of the Institute.

Sir. (Dr.) Oyegunle charged the newly elected Council members to thrive to work for the growth and development of the Institute in their various capacities even as he wished them a successful tenure.
