Allianz Commercial South Africa is proud to announce its sponsorship of the 50th African Insurance Exchange (AIE) Conference 2024, held from July 21 – 24, 2024. The conference, themed “Foundation. Foster. Fearless,” will take place at Sun City and is set to bring together nearly 1000 professionals from the financial services industry worldwide.

As a long-standing sponsor of the AIE since 2013, Allianz Commercial South Africa recognizes the importance of creating an environment for the company to thrive and deliver thought leadership content to the insurance industry and the financial services sector. The conference aims to engage with decision-makers in the sector on topical matters affecting the economy, the African continent, and the global impact.

Thusang Mahlangu, CEO of Allianz Commercial South Africa, expressed the significance of the sponsorship, stating, “Allianz Commercial is sponsoring the AIE conference as it enables us to secure the future of our business partners, industry, and community by exploring ideas and solutions that allow the industry to be more sustainable and relevant. AIE allows us as a company and an industry to reflect, connect, learn, and grow.”

One of the highlights of the conference was the panel discussion on alternative energy solutions, featuring Daniel Schroeder, Senior Risk Consultant at Allianz Commercial. The panel was facilitated by renowned TV news anchor, Tumelo Mothotoane, providing valuable insights into the future of energy in the insurance industry.

The AIE conference also recognized Delphine Traoré, CEO of SanlamAllianz General Insurance, for her groundbreaking role as the first black female president of the Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA) from 2015 to 2017. This achievement holds historical significance, marking a significant milestone in gender equality and serving as a symbol of progress in breaking down barriers for women in leadership roles.

Thokozile Mahlangu, CEO of IISA, emphasized the importance of Delphine’s presidency, stating, “Having a black female president provided representation, indicated the industry’s commitment to transformation, ensured a diversified perspective and approach to leadership within the insurance industry and the financial services sector. Delphine served as a role model for future generations in the industry, showing young professionals that they can aspire to and achieve the highest levels of whatever they put their mind to.”

Delphine expressed her gratitude for having served as the IISA president, saying, “It was an honor and privilege to serve the IISA. I have and continue to watch their developments with interest. I would like to acknowledge and thank leaders in Africa for guiding me in shaping my career since my return to the continent in 2012. Importantly, I would like to thank Allianz for giving me the opportunity and the platform to contribute towards the development and growth of insurance in Africa.”

Allianz Commercial CEO in South Africa Thusang Mahlangu, Business Development Manager Senzile Ndlozi, Head of Property and MidCorp, Geoff Tanton, Head of Claims Lulu Pule, and Financial Lines Underwriter Clement Khoza represented Allianz Commercial at the conference to network with existing and potential business partners.
