The knowledge of marine insurance is fast eroding in the industry, a group of underwriters have said.
This assertion was made by the Marine Offices Committee in a report presented to the the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA).
The committee attributed the dearth to the high rate of staff mobility, whilst calling for an adequate training and exposure of marine underwriters in the international world for proper skill acquisition to cope with the evolving business environment.
“Our clients need expert personnel to guide them and we must ensure the next generation of insurers are encouraged and trained,” the committee posited.
It maintained that marine underwriters need valuable data on their losses/claims that can be used to identify trends and issues, adding that in line with this requirement, a data bank is urgently required.
