Many people have given up on insurance due to bad claims experience with some insurance companies in the past.
Giving up is not the solution, as it amounts to creating more problems, as you have to carry your risks alone, impacting your finances negatively.
Having done all you could to get the claim, especially from an active company, but failed, you can escalate the matter to the insurance industry regulator – National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) to help recover the genuine claim.
It works. Last year two matters of delayed claims, N550,000 and N1 million, against an insurer were brought to my attention and they were reported to NAICOM and swiftly settled.
What to do
* Ensure your claim is genuine
* Get all your documents
* Contact any insurance journalist
* Present the matter to NAICOM
Be careful and do full background check before buying a policy from a company.
