The National Bureaux of Ghana; Togo and Benin is owing the Nigerian National Bureau an outstanding claims amounting to N200 million, Inspenonline has learnt.
The Secretary-General, Nigerian National Bureau, ECOWAS Brown Card Scheme, Mrs Henrietta Anyaoku, said this in a report presented to the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), adding that an outstanding claims of N50 million is expected to be paid by member insurance companies to the Bureau.
She maintained that 2018 contribution due to the secretariat was N14.6 million; contribution collected N13.3 million and contribution paid N5 million.
According to her, claims due for payment was N4 million; claims paid to various National Bureau, N38.5 million; claims paid by members N36.5 million and claims incurred across the sub-region, N18 million.
Anyanwu posited that brown card purchase within the period under review was N1.6 million and brown card sale N12.19 million.
She said adoption of automatic issuance of brown card by the ECOWAS Commission, has facilitated prompt payment of claims and contribution, stressing that backlog of outstanding claims have drastically reduced especially in countries where the adoptions as been implemented.
She called on Insurance operators in Nigeria to put in process strategies for the implementation of the automatic issuance of brown card.
