When AIICO Insurance Plc paid the claims of one of its policyholders that suffered a loss, the firm never knew that the act would transform the life of an agent who was not a party in the deal.
Sunday Good – not real name – an insurance agent who was a member of staff of AIICO Insurance Plc, was at the Lagos Airport for a flight, when he met a man, who he gave his complementary card. The stranger looked at the card and remarked; oh! You work with AIICO Insurance? A friend told me how your company settled his claims without hassle, when he suffered a loss.
The stranger went on, I would insure with you. I will call you when I get to my office.
That was the beginning of a life changing journey for the agent.
The agent, who narrated the experience in a public gathering and had an interview with Inspenonline, noted that the stranger, who later became a friend, kept to his promise, as he called and bought insurance policies, of which the commission generated from the deal changed his life
He submitted that from the commission, he built his first house, made his first trip abroad, took care of his mom’s health challenge and settle other pressing needs.
He said the policyholder, who is a multi-billionaire with chains of businesses, has continued to insure through him.
Good, noted that when a firm settles a claim, the ripple effects are enormous, stressing that benefits from a single claim paid, positively affects the firm: staff; policyholders; other insurance practitioners by promoting their sales efforts and the economy.
He maintained that reneging on claims deprive the aforementioned great benefits provided by insurance.
He implored insurance firms to esteem honouring their claims obligations as claims settlement remains the best advertorial for the industry.
