How would you like to renew your car insurance on your laptop or smart phone?
ICBC is working on a way to make that possible.
Our American friends can use an app to renew insurance instead of having to head down to a broker’s office. ICBC wants to make this happen for us too, but it’s all in the very early stages.
That’s why Adam Grossman with ICBC isn’t able to say how exactly it would work.
“In terms of any online services, it’s serving customers in a way they want to be served. I know when I do interactions with any company, it’s a much more convenient way to do many transactions.”
Without details, you might expect resistance from the insurance industry — which currently acts as a middle man, selling drivers policies when they renew.
Grossman assures any online system would still involve brokers.
“Anything we do, in terms of whether it’s online insurance or online insurance renewal reminders, will be absolutely in partnership with our brokers. They’re a valued part of that conversation and they’ve been involved in that from the get go.”
ICBC is also looking at allowing customers access to driver records and claims histories online.
