Insurance agents have expressed misgivings over neglect and omission of relevant requirements in the recently unveiled licensing portal by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM).

Concerned agents told Inspenonline that they were not carried along in the building of the portal, adding that NAICOM’s decision to neglect their inputs has led to omission of their association’s certificate/receipt as a major requirements for registration/licensing of agents.

They also said the portal has not addressed their earlier challenge, as they are still unable to start and conclude their renewal/licensing processes on the new portal.

They called on the management of NAICOM to effectively address their challenges as most agents are wary and prospecting opportunities in other fields of endeavour.

According to them, the omission of the Association of Registered Agents of Nigeria (ARIAN) certificate/receipt as a basic requirement on the portal for registration/licensing, would give unqualified public free access to the agency business and also deny the association revenue which comes from membership registration.

Recall that NAICOM had on August 1, 2024 unveiled a licensing portal for registration and renewal of the licences of insurance Agents.

NAICOM said the new Portal would ease, fast track and streamline licencing of insurance agents and also reduce manual intervention in the issuance of agency licensing process.

It submitted that all applications for registration and renewal of agency license shall be submitted using https://agent.naicom.gov.ng on the new Portal effective 1st August 2024.

The insurance industry regulator advised that all pending applications that have not been registered on the old portal should be resubmitted through the new licensing agents portal, it submitted.

NAICOM urged all registered agents and insurance companies to note the above and be guided accordingly.
