The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) has said the move by Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to integrate marine module into National Trade Portal, has significantly reduced fake marine insurance certificates.

Director-General of the NIA, Mrs. Yetunde Ilori, stated this in a report, adding that the integration required that all insurance Certificates for import and export should be generated from the portal.

According to her, the goal of the association is to ultimately eliminate fake marine insurance at the ports.

She maintained that discussion on Nigerian Shippers Council Container Insurance Project (Package Policy) is also ongoing between National Insurance Commission (NAICOM); Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC); Nigerian Insurers Association; Project IT vendor – Brandone and all other stakeholders including, various associations of shipping companies; shippers/importers; clearing agents; track owners amongst others.
