The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has implored insurance operators to improve their budget on publicity as the level of insurance awareness is still relatively low in the country.
The Commissioner for Insurance, Sunday Thomas, said this at the just concluded 2021 NAICOM seminar for Insurance Journalists in Lagos, adding that as insurance remains one of the bedrocks of economy growth, people need to be aware of its importance to enable them maximize its benefits.
Thomas maintained that continuous publicity is required to properly entrench insurance in the country, stressing that insurance operators should make adequate budgetary provisions for creation of awareness on the enormous benefits derivable from insurance.
He said the commission is collaborating with the Ministry of Finance to ensure all government agencies entrench insurance in their activities.
He also highlighted efforts made in recent times to ensure the enforcement of compulsory insurance, submitting that the commission had had meetings with the Ministry of Transportation; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory; Federal Fire Service amongst others.
Thomas applauded insurance journalists for their contributions to insurance growth through their reportage, whilst craving for more supports to enable the sector takes it rightful place in the economy.
