The newly elected Chairman of Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers Lagos Area Committee (NCRIB-LAC) Olufemi Oduwole, has identified strategic collaboration; training & human capital development; image building, strategic campaign and sustenance of catch-them-young campaign as key focus during his administration.
Oduwole stated this in the inaugural speech presented at his investiture as the 12th Chairman of NCRIB-LAC in Lagos.
He noted that realising that the key to progress of the NCRIB-LAC is in forging progressive relationship with notable institutions, his leadership team would, through the support and endorsement of the national secretariat, sustain the tempo of relationship with strategic stakeholders in the professions and commerce.
“While making intercessions for members with the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) through the national secretariat, we would extend the frontiers of our collaboration to Area Committees or Branches of notable professional institutions like ICAN, CIPM, NIMN to exchange ideas for growth,” he posited.
On training and human capital development, he submitted that in a fast paced world, human capital development must be continuous, stressing that as a knowledge based institution, he would lead members to garner required knowledge through engagement of professionals within and outside the insurance industry to train members on dynamic issues affecting their lives and practice.
“I am happy note that during this tenure we would reinvent the LAC OPEN HOUSE where we choose a day in a quarter to have members listen to an insurance icon or a worthy personality speak to members in a convivial environment,” he said.
According to him, this initiative would further foster comradeship or fraternity which insurance practitioners have been noted for from the “Coffee House” days.
Speaking on image building and strategic campaigns, he stated that
during his tenure, his team would not relent in promoting insurance knowledge and acceptance through messaging in local Nigerian languages.
He said the team would also spend more time to reach those who traditionally they had never reached but that must be captured in the financial inclusion net.
On sustenance of catch-them-young campaign, he remarked that
while realising the huge strides that his predecessors have achieved in this area, his team would indeed sustain the campaign to schools to order to “indoctrinate” the younger ones with knowledge about insurance as future providers and consumers.
“In doing this, we would also be giving more attention to empowering the teachers of insurance more with the contemporary skill sets they need for quality impartation of knowledge on the students.
“Happily, we have mapped out a programme, starting from January 2025 to train teachers in the public and private schools in Lagos State through online platforms, to be facilitated by highly resourceful practitioners among them the first female Professor of Insurance,” he submitted.
Oduwole maintained that at the end of the training, the best three teachers that emerged would be given cash gifts and awarded scholarships to write the AIIN examinations.
While realising the huge sacrifice that the above would require, I am using this opportunity to enlist the support of all members as a tree, however huge, can never make a forest, he appealed.
He solicited that stakeholders lend their prayers and support so that together, they can make the Area Committee and by extension, the Council great.
The President of NCRIB Babatunde Oguntade, congratulated the new LAC Chairman, stating that his election is a reflection of the dedication, vision and trust that members have placed in him.
He urged him to rise to the occasion and lead with excellence, building upon the solid foundation laid by his predecessors and advancing the broking shared goals.
