The Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) as part of raising competent hands to teach insurance in secondary schools across the country, has promised to sponsor individuals interested in teaching the subject in acquiring professionals qualifications granted by the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN).
The Chairman of NCRIB-LAC Demola Olutosin, said this today at the NCRIB-LAC Schools Visitation at Oriwu Senior Model College Ikorodu, Lagos, stating that the initiative would help bridge the gap on dearth of insurance teachers in most secondary schools in Nigeria.
Demola Olutosin, who attended Oriwu Senior Model College Ikorodu, Lagos, said NCRIB-LAC is committed to attracting youngsters into the insurance industry by ensuring their teachers acquire the insurance professional qualifications.
He told the teachers and those willing to teach insurance to form an insurance teachers’ club, to ensure easy access to NCRIB-LAC’s programmes and encourage knowledge sharing.
He reiterated the Area Committee’s commitments to enhancing insurance industry manpower through catching youngsters at their early stage in life.
He said the Area Committee has been granted approval by Lagos State Government to start insurance clubs in secondary schools.
He said the event was also approved by Lagos State, which gave them the approval to conduct insurance awareness across all the Model Colleges in Education District 2.
He educated the students, who were drawn from six Senior Secondary Schools in the District, on benefits in insurance sector, whilst urging them to pursue and build a career in insurance, stressing that great job prospects exist for insurance professionals home and abroad.
The past Chairman of NCRIB-LAC Ayo Akande, who was the keynote speaker at the event, took out time to education the students on basic principles of insurance and the enormous opportunities in the industry.
The Vice Chairman NCRIB-LAC, Femi Oduwole, appreciated the students and their teachers for coming out in their numbers, whilst imploring them to make insurance their first choice while pursuing their university and polytechnic education.
He also shared with the students the roles of insurance brokers, who he termed intermediaries, bridging the gap between underwriters and policyholders.
The General Secretary of NCRIB-LAC Casmir Azubuike, also informed the students of the enormous opportunities before insurance professional, stressing that an insurance professional can work outside the industry and easily become a managing director in an insurance broking firm.
Azubuike also made a pledge of N100,000 to the overall insurance best student.
Public Relations Officer, NCRIB-LAC Dr. Dapo Owoeye, told the students to take advantage of the opportunity provided by the brokers to eke a better life in the future.
He enjoined the students to remain focus, stressing that being focused and determined brought him and other of his colleagues at the event to the lofty heights they occupied today.
NCRIB-LAC, at the event donated both exercise and textbooks to the students, whilst promising to sponsor any student who distinguished him/herself in undertaking insurance industry professional examinations.
Insurance Teacher, Government Senior College Ikorodu, Alashe Motunrayo, on behalf of her colleagues, appreciated the brokers for their gesture, whilst soliciting more supports in the area of donation of insurance textbooks and other teaching materials.
Representatives of Students from the schoold in attendance, also applauded the brokers for their kind gesture, whilst promising to make best use of the knowledge acquired at the event.
