Insurance industry’s unified platform for the sales of third party motor insurance code- named: Nigerian Insurance Industry Portal (NIIP), which ought to be launched by July 1, 2017 has been moved to an unspecified date, Inspen can report.

The Head, corporate affairs, Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) Davis Iyasere, told this medium that the association is working hard to launch the project, adding that the date was moved forward due to the association’s ability to meet up with all the necessary requirements needed for the take off of the project.

He stated that a new date for the launch will be announced after the necessary arrangements have been made, stressing that the launch will be very soon.

The Acting Director-General NIA, Mrs Lawunmi Idowu, said the platform will accommodate all NIA members and serve as the authentic platform to sell third party motor insurance in Nigeria, stressing that when completed, the unified platform will integrate all existing legacy systems from individual companies.

She maintained that for each motor category, there would be an enforcement of minimum premium which is expected to address issues of rate cutting.

Mrs Idowu noted that a technology service provider has been engaged to develop and implement the platform, stressing that immediate modules of the system will include underwriting, endorsement, renewal notifications, claims and admin module, while future modules will feature sales of comprehensive motor insurance, marine and ECOWAS Brown Cards.
