The Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) the umbrella body of registered insurance brokers in the country will on Thursday, October 15, 2015, witness a change in leadership as Emmanuel Kayode Okunoren becomes its 18th President.
A statement by the Assistant Manager Corporate Affairs NCRIB, Dele Ayeleso, said the event will hold at the Federal Palace Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
He noted that other top notch that may emerge to run the professional body’s affairs for the next two years, subject to ratification by the forth coming annual general meeting is Shola Tinubu as Deputy President while Mrs. Bola Onigbogi so far appears to be the only candidate for the post of Vice President.
The statement noted that Okunoren, the incoming president is a consummate insurance professional and a chip of the old bloc that is expected to provide dynamic and foresighted leadership for the insurance brokers’ body to allow it play more prominent roles in the insurance value chain in the country.
He is a long standing holder of the Fellowship of the Chartered Insurance Institute of London and Nigeria by examination. He has also had robust experience on the Council on the NCRIB having served on strategic committees on Oil and Gas cum Local Content, Joint Technical Committee of the industry among others.
Okunoren was also one time honourary treasurer; Auditor; Vice President and now Deputy President from which he emerges as the 18th President of the Council.
Prior to the investiture ceremony, the Council will hold its Annual General Meeting and National Insurance Conference during which, the Paper entitled; ‘Revisiting Corporate Governance Dynamics’ will be delivered by the Managing Director of UAC Property Company, Hakeem Ogunniran, while the Director, Enterprise Segments, Etisalat Nigeria Lucas Dada will deliver the sub theme paper, titled: “Digital Delivery as Growth Driver in Insurance Retail Marketing”
The Commissioner for Insurance, Mohammed Kari will be the Special Guest of Honour, other dignitaries expected at the events include, Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajumobi, his Ogun State counterpart, Ibikunle Amosun.
OKUNOREN’S PROFILE
Born on 14th May 1951 in Sagamu, Ogun State, Okunoren attended Ansur-UD- Deen College Isolo, Lagos from 1964 to 1968 after which he worked briefly with the Federal Office of Statistics, Ikoyi and later moved on to the Great Nigeria Insurance Company Limited, where he cut his teeth in the insurance industry.
In order to gain higher professional competence for accelerated professional career, Okunoren proceeded to the Unity Kingdom for his Chartered Insurance Institute for his qualifying examinations in 1973 and came out as a Chartered Insurer in 1976. During his foray in the UK, he had professional experience working with Cornhill Insurance Company Ltd. On return to Nigeria in 1976, Okunoren joined Hogg Robinson Nigeria and had extensive work career, rising through the cadre to the position of Deputy General Manager, having put in 16 years in the company. In 1990, he joined Koguna Babura Insurance Brokers Limited where he held sway as Managing Director for 12 years before pioneering Manny Insurance Brokers Ltd, which today stands as one of the most ethical and highly professional brokerage company in the company.
In terms of contributions to the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, Okunoren became active in the Council since 1993 and later joined the officer cadre of the Council as Honourary Auditor; Honourary Treasurer and later Vice President and Deputy President, from where he ascends the position of President. He also served on strategic Committees of the Council, notably; the Technical Committee; the Joint Industry Committee; Election Screening Committee; The Reinsurance Committee and the Local Contents Committee. He is also an active personae on the Insurance Industry Consultative Council of the industry.
A lecturer and guest lecturer, Mr. Okunoren is a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of London by qualifying examinations as well as Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria and the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers. He was a member of NCRIB delegation to the yearly business trips to the UK; USA; Australia, UAE and the Gambia.
He is happily married to Olusola and their marriage is blessed with children and grand children.
