Continental Reinsurance Plc has announced winners of the 8th Pan-African (Re)Insurance Journalism Awards, of which Omobola Tolu-Kusimo of The Nation Newspaper and Nike Popoola of Punch Newspaper emerged
2nd runners-up in the English print category.
The awards recognize and celebrate the outstanding work of journalists covering the (re)insurance industry in Africa.
The winners were selected from over 90 entries submitted by journalists from 18 African countries, including Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Egypt, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Malawi, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
The winners of the 8th Pan-African (Re)Insurance Journalism Awards are: Nelson Mandela Muhoozi, Uganda – Winner, Online Category (English).
Ridwan Karim Dini-Osman, Ghana – Winner, Broadcast Category (English).
Felix Klutse, Ghana – Winner, Print Category (English).
Mahamadi Sebogo, Burkina Faso – Winner, French Category.
Toka Hatem Elsayed Elsayed, Egypt – Winner, Arabic Category.
Calvin Manika, Zimbabwe – Winner, Dr Femi Future Talent Award.
The winners were announced at an awards ceremony held in Kenya on 16th March 2023, alongside the 8th Continental Re CEO Summit. The awards ceremony was graced by His Excellency Rigathi Gachagua, Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya and attended by dignitaries, industry experts, journalists, and other stakeholders in the (re)insurance industry in Africa.
Continental Reinsurance CEO, Mr Lawrence Nazare, congratulated the winners and emphasized the importance of quality journalism in advancing the (re)insurance industry in Africa.
He noted that the awards aim to encourage journalists to report accurately and comprehensively on the industry, and to promote a better understanding of (re)insurance among the public.
The winners of the 8th Pan-African (Re)Insurance Journalism Awards receive cash prizes, trophies and certificates of recognition.
The awards are part of Continental Reinsurance’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, aimed at promoting excellence in journalism and advancing the (re)insurance industry in Africa.
