Practitioners applaud Omosehin, Ilori’s contributions to insurance growth

Insurance industry practitioners and dignitaries from different sectors of the economy have applauded the tremendous contributions made by the immediate past Chairman of Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), now Commissioner for Insurance Olusegun Omosehin, and outgoing Director-General of the Nigerian Insurers Association, Mrs Yetunde Ilori to the growth of insurance sector.

The dignitaries at a colourful send forth ceremony organised by the Nigerian Insurers Association in Lagos, tagged, ‘Celebration of Double-edge Excellence’, insurance companies’ spoke on major achievements of Omosehin and Ilori.

Omosehin, chaired the NIA until April this year, when he was appointed as Commissioner for Insurance and Mrs. Ilori, will be leaving the NIA soon to become the next President of Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) this July.

The Chairman of NEM Insurance Plc, Tope Smart, while speaking on Omosehin, he said, “He is very professional, very hardworking. He is a man of integrity who is very passionate about the industry. He actually excelled everywhere he worked. He is a man who dedicated virtually everything to his work, he has the drive and energy.”

He mentioned many of Ilori’s excellent contributions to the industry.

Speaking more on the outgoing NIA DG, he said, “One thing that stands out is the building of NIA where we are today, and that has really changed the face of the insurance industry in Nigeria. Even professionals who came from outside the country that went to NIA were so impressed and they decided that they were going to go back and replicate what we have done in NIA, so kudos to Ilori.”

The President, Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers, Babatunde Oguntade, lauded the achievements of the celebrants. He said that they have the right character to do the work.

While noting that Omosehin is the Commissioner for all, he stressed the need for all sectors in the insurance industry to collaborate on the industry’s growth.

The Deputy Chairman NIA Mrs. Ebelechukwu Nwachukwu, applauded the contributions of the duo, stating that their impacts have helped the industry greatly.

Speaking for the insurance CEOs, the Chairman, NIA, Kunle Ahmed, said, “Mr. Omosehin and Mrs. Ilori have been a beacon of inspiration, guiding us through challenges and triumphs with unwavering dedication and visionary leadership. Under their stewardship, our Association has reached new heights, achieved significant milestones, and set a solid foundation for future success.

“As we reflect on the years of their tenure, we are reminded of the countless contributions and the profound impact they had on each one of us and the Association as a whole. Their commitment to excellence, innovation, and fostering a collaborative culture has truly transformed the Association.

“Tonight, we celebrate not just the end of an assignment, but the beginning of a new chapter for both of them as they take on the mantle of leadership as Commissioner at the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) and President at the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) respectively. We are grateful for their leadership, and we wish them all the best in their new roles and their future endeavours.”

Mrs. Ilori appreciated the support of her families, friends and colleagues in her success journey.

“You brought the best out of me, thank you all for supporting me,” she posited.

The Commissioner, Omosehin, thanked his colleagues and all stakeholders in the industry. He said, “Let us be deliberate in taking this industry forward. The story of the insurance industry has not yet been told, the decision to change our story must be deliberate. Please, make the insurance industry your priority when taking decisions.”
