Governor of Abia, Alex Otti,has appointed the former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Heirs Insurance Limited, Njum Onyemenam as accountant-general of the state.

Otti’s media office announced the development in a statement released on Tuesday night.

Njum Onyemenam prior to the appointment was Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Heirs Insurance Limited. She was previously the CFO of NSIA Insurance Limited and also CFO Zenith Insurance NG. She is a seasoned finance professional with over 20 years of experience in Strategy, Business Planning and management, Financial Control and Performance management, Financial Analysis, Investment, Treasury and Tax Management.

She is reputable for developing strategies to support the organization’s financial control, business planning, forecasting and aligning business processes with a corporate strategy which result in driving profitability.

Njum has an MBA from Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University and is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma (BGS). She also served as the Vice President (Finance) of the Executive Council of the BGS Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University Chapter 2018/2019.

As a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA), Njum has served in various standing committees of the institute, She is currently a member of the governing council of the institute of chartered accountants of Nigeria. She is an Associate Member of The Chartered Institute of Taxation (ACTI) and The Certified Pension Institute of Nigeria (ACIP).

She served as the Chairman of the Accounting Technical Committee of the Nigerian Insurers Association i.e. an umbrella Association of all Nigeria Insurance Industry Chief Financial Officers and related accounting functions, where she strongly promotes key industry financial reporting initiatives. She has served as a member of the committee on Advocacy of Insurance Industry Tax matters advisory through the Capital Market Implementation Committee (CAMMIC).

Njum actively participated in the industry’s transition process from NGAAP to IFRS jointly managed by Nigeria Insurers Association (NIA) and NAICOM. She served as a member of Nigeria Insurance Industry IFRS 17 Workgroup.
