It was a glorious moment when Sir (Dr.) Adelani Oniwinde celebrated his 85th birthday on second week of January 2025, with the release of his new book titled: “Insurance Marketing and Management in West Africa”.
About the book
The book’s first section examines the marketing environment of insurance in English speaking West African countries, focusing on Nigeria, Ghana, The Gambia, and Liberia. It analyses the diverse economic, regulatory, and competitive characteristics affecting the marketing of insurance products, discussing product design, pricing, distribution channels, and consumer behavior.
In a competitive landscape, insurers must navigate market trends and regulatory changes, emphasizing branding, advertising, and sales strategies to attract consumers.
The second section delves into the management of insurance companies, covering strategic planning, financial stability, organisational culture, and employee motivation.
It highlights the importance of capitalisation and solvency requirements amid increasing regulatory scrutiny. Finally, the book addresses change management in the evolving industry, exploring the challenges insurers face.

About the Author
Sir (Dr). Adelani Kehinde Oniwinde, a distinguished chartered insurer, has made significant contributions to West Africa’s insurance sector.
With an MBA, a PhD in Business Management, and fellowships from renowned insurance institutes, he has shaped the industry since his education in Nigeria and the UK, which laid the foundation for his career.
He held various roles, advancing from Royal Exchange Assurance and Yorkshire Insurance to becoming the Managing Director and CEO of Niger Insurance Plc for several years, later retiring as Executive Vice Chairman.
Dr. Oniwinde also served as, President of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, and a visiting lecturer at the West African Insurance institute. His leadership and commitment to education have established him as a key mentor in the insurance industry.
