Sovereign Trust Insurance (STI) Plc has marked the 2026 Valentine’s season by spearheading a fire safety sensitization and drill for traders at the Saka Tinubu Market in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The initiative, tagged “Protecting What You Love,” was organized in partnership with the Federal Fire Service on February 13, 2026. The program was designed to equip the bustling market community with essential life-saving skills and fire prevention techniques.

Capacity Building for Traders
Moving away from traditional Valentine’s Day gestures, the underwriting firm focused on the physical and financial security of the market’s stakeholders. The event featured:

Practical Demonstrations: Federal Fire Service officials led sessions on the correct use of fire extinguishers.

Evacuation Protocols: Guidance on emergency evacuation procedures to minimize casualties.

Incident Management: Techniques to contain minor fire outbreaks before they escalate into major disasters.

Commitment to Community Well-being
Speaking at the event, Olajumoke Olatubosun, Head of Marketing and Business Development at Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc, noted that the gesture aligns with the company’s broader mission.

“At Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc, our commitment to our communities extends beyond financial protection. We are concerned about the well-being of our customers and the things they hold dear. This Valentine, we chose to give the gift of safety and preparedness,” Olatubosun stated.

Strengthening Public-Private Partnerships
The Federal Fire Service commended the insurer for its proactive Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and its investment in public safety education. Officials noted that such collaborations are vital for enhancing safety in high-density commercial hubs like Victoria Island.

Market executives and shop owners expressed appreciation for the intervention, acknowledging that practical fire safety knowledge is a critical asset in protecting their livelihoods and properties.
