Three Secondary School teachers have won the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers Lagos Area Committee (NCRIB LAC) Train the Teachers Award.
They are Emmanuel Jatto, of Greenville Liberty College Ogun State, who took the first position; Ifeanyi Ogunkoya, from Government Secondary School, Bako, Abuja, second position and Abigail Okeke from Liberty College Lagos.
Chairman NCRIB (LAC) Olufemi Oduwole, submitted that as part of the Committee’s initiative to train the teachers in public schools across the country in insurance, it had organised training for the teachers in conjunction with Kehinde Adeyemi, which commenced on the Saturday, January 4, 2025 and ended on Saturday, January 25, 2025.
According to him, the experts that trained the teachers were; Prof. Adenike, 1st female Professor of Insurance; Kehinde Adeyemi, a reinsurance expert; Abiodun Durodola, Chief Executive Officer Multiple Bond Insurance Brokers and Chief Executive Officer EMDI Capacity Development Limited and former Chairman of NCRIB-LAC Mrs. Bukola Ifemade.
He noted that the teachers are back to their various classes to demonstrate what they were taught by the trainers.
“In the course of the training, we conducted test for the teachers at the end of each lecture and three of the teachers distinguished themselves and will be awarded cash gifts and registration for the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) at the Committee’s monthly general meeting in March 2025,” he said.
One of the participants who shared an experience said: “I am incredibly grateful to have participated in this insightful training on insurance, organised for 1,000 teachers.
“According to the Ogun State Business Studies Scheme of Work, the topic for this week and next week is Insurance, and this training has significantly enhanced my understanding of the subject.
“It has enabled me to delve deeper into the topic, making my lessons more engaging and impactful for my students. I sincerely appreciate the organisers for equipping us with this valuable knowledge, which will undoubtedly improve the quality of our teaching.”
At the closing ceremony of the event, students from selected schools staged a short drama to highlight the importance of insurance.
Their performance creatively demonstrated the practical applications and benefits of insurance in real-life situations.
