Universal Insurance Plc, a leading underwriting firm in Nigeria, has been named the Best Insurance Company in Support of Drug and Substance Abuse Prevention Programmes in the country.
The recognition underscores the company’s commitment to its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and its vision of providing a world-class safety net for Nigerian citizens through the promotion of crime prevention and youth development.
The company has been at the forefront of nationwide awareness campaigns targeting drug and substance abuse. This initiative stems from Universal Insurance’s recognition of the critical link between substance abuse, rising crime rates, and social instability.
The insurer was specifically commended for its strategic partnership with the African Youths Initiative on Crime Prevention (AYICRIP). In light of this impactful collaboration, the company was recently honored with an Award of Recognition for its contributions to crime prevention efforts across Nigeria.
The award was presented at the 11th National Summit on Drug and Substance Abuse Prevention, an event organized by AYICRIP to celebrate organizations demonstrating leadership in community safety and youth empowerment.
Through Universal Insurance’s backing, AYICRIP has successfully implemented:
Advocacy programmes and awareness campaigns.
Youth-focused initiatives addressing the root causes of crime.
Programmes fostering a culture of civic responsibility.
Speaking on the achievement, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Universal Insurance Plc, Dr. Japhet Duru, expressed his gratitude while noting that the award serves as a catalyst for further action.
“We are impressed by this recognition; however, it is also a call to greater responsibility. We will not rest on our oars. This award challenges us to intensify our efforts, and Universal Insurance Plc will continue to support initiatives aimed at reducing crime to the barest minimum,” Duru stated.
The partnership highlights the essential role the private sector plays in complementing government and civil society efforts to tackle insecurity and drug abuse.
By investing in preventive strategies, Universal Insurance Plc continues to strengthen its reputation as a socially responsible organization dedicated to safeguarding the wellbeing and future of Nigerian communities alongside providing reliable insurance solutions.
