Miss Insurance 2016 winner Adaeze Okeke on Wednesday pledged that she would persuade Nigeria’s 170 million population to take up insurance policies before the end of this year.
Okeke made the pledge on Wednesday when she paid a courtesy visit to Linkage Assurance Plc at Lekki, Lagos.
She said that she would take her campaign to the six geo-political zones to make every Nigeria to show deep interest in insurance.
“I intend to concentrate on creating insurance awareness focusing more on micro-insurance products.
“I will ensure that my awareness campaigns are translated into different Nigerian languages in order to get to the grassroots.
“This I believe will improve the financial inclusions of the huge market at the bottom of the pyramid.
“You will agreewith me that a significant percentage of the people of our great country have been largely uninsured,” she said.
The beauty ambassador said it was a discouraging that Nigeria with a population of over 166 million had only 0.5 per cent insurance penetration.

“This suggests that we have a lot of work as practitioners to do.”

She, however, commended the National Insurance Commission, Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), Nigeria Insurance Association and the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers for increasing insurance penetration.

“I am aware of the fantastic job being done by registered intermediaries in promoting insurance awareness, especially in the grassroots.

“I will leverage on what they have done so far and work assiduously to deepen insurance awareness and penetration.

“This is hinged on my belief that the insurance sector is critical to the growth and development of any country, especially the emerging economies such as Nigeria.

“With the support of my company, Linkage Assurance Plc., CIIN and all other stakeholders, I trust I will achieve what I have set out to do.

The Managing Director of Linkage Assurance Plc, Mr Godwin Wiggle, said the company would support Okeke to ensure that the beauty queen achieved her set goals during her reign. (NAN)
