Chilekezi wins AIO book award

The African Insurance Organisation’s conference ended on a good note as the 2016 African Insurance Organisation awards were won by two Nigerians with one of the winners being Obinna Chilekezi, an insurance researcher and consultant who started his career in the industry at the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria.

Obinna was born at Port Harcourt of Mbaise parents. He had the first five years of his primary education at Nwair Ud Deen Primary School, Ajegunle, Lagos and later completed the primary education at Central School, Umunama from where he proceeded to Ife Secondary School, both in Imo State.

He obtained the Higher National Diploma from The Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, another Higher National Diploma from Yaba College of Technology. Chilekezi has a Bachelor of Science from Joseph Ayo Babalola University, a post graduate diploma from Times Journalism Institute and another in Finance from Ondo State University. He also has a Masters in Business Administration from LadokeAkintola University.

Chilekezi had work as a Senior Manager at Everest Insurance and Head of Reseachand Development at the Nigerian Insurers Association where he also served as the Editor of the Nigeria Insurance Digest for four years. He is also a lecturer at the West African Insurance Institute, The Gambia.

The award winning book is entitled Marine Insurance an Introductory Text and it contains nine chapters. In the preface to the work the author had noted the important role than marine insurance plays in the nation’s economy hence marineinsurance is compulsory for all imports into the country. The book attempts to provide the reader with information that would assist him/her have better understanding of marine insurance. In this regard the book x-rays important issues on marine insurance principles and practice.

Apart from this book, the author has written many other books on insurance practice as well as serving as either the editor or editorial consultant to many insurance serials. He is a regular guest at the pidgin English radio programmewetin insurance dey do safe.

Obinna Chilekezi is married to Ugomma Chilekezi, a PhD candidate of the University of Lagos and the marriage is blessed with three children.
