The National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) is working assiduously to open more state offices, to strengthen insurance operations in the states of the federation, Inspenonline can report.

It was also gathered from a reliable source in the Commission, that officers to head the offices established last year, have been posted to the states in preparation for the takeoff of the branches.

The source maintained that some level of progress is being made for the commencement of operations in the established branches.

He posited that contrary to the belief that the offices were created to oversee the implementation of the aborted State Insurance Producer (SIP) initiative, they were actually established to help develop insurance at the states.

Recall that last year, the Governing Board of NAICOM approved the restructuring of the commission to accommodate new directorates and state branch offices across the country.

In the structure, three more directorates were created in the commission, bringing the total number of directorates to nine

The directorates were, commissioner for insurance’ directorate, Lagos office, and legal and liquidation directorate.

NAICOM said the supervision and inspectorate directorates had been merged into one inspectorate directorate while the authorisation and policy directorate had been split into two separate directorates, namely policy and regulation directorate and corporate governance, enforcement and compliance directorate.

It maintained that the restructuring exercise is part of the efforts at repositioning the commission for better service delivery.

It added that the commission had expanded its branch network by creating 20 additional state branch offices across the six geopolitical zones.

Also, four out of the existing five zonal offices, which are Enugu, Ilorin, Port Harcourt and Kano, have been converted to branch offices, bringing the total number of branch offices in the states to 24.

“As part of the exercise, Mrs. Adeshola Obeya has also been appointed as the Acting Secretary to the Commission. All changes and appointments are with immediate effect. The restructuring exercise is part of the Commission’s efforts at repositioning the Commission for better service delivery,” NAICOM said.

According to NAICOM, further to the exercise, the following personnel were appointed to head the respective Directorates:
