The first Nigerian female to obtain a Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Insurance, Dr. (Mrs) Chizoba Perpetua Ehiogu, has been appointed Rector College of Insurance and Financial Management (CIFM), owned by the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN).
Dr. (Mrs) Ehiogu who has resumed this September, but will take full charge of the College from October 1, 2023, is taking over from the pioneer Rector of the College, Dr. (Mrs) Yeside Oyetayo, who has steered affairs of the College since inception.
The College of Insurance and Financial Management was established by the Governing Council of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria via a resolution passed at its statutory meeting held on the 16th of November 2016.
The CIFM started its operations in 2010 under the Training Directorate of the CIIN, but moved to its present campus on the 5th of January 2015.
The new Rector hails from Abia State, but was born in Owerri, Imo State on the 9th of September.
She holds a bachelor’s degree (BSc) in insurance and Actuarial Sciences with Second Class (Hon) Upper-division, a Masters’ in Business Administration (MBA), and a master of Science (MSc) in Insurance and Risk Management, and also a Ph.D. in Insurance and Risk Management.
She is the first female to obtain a Doctorate Degree
(PhD) in Insurance Nigeria. She had a short stint with Fidelity Bank Plc before joining the services of Imo State University Owerri, Nigeria, where she occupied the Office of the Head of Insurance Department.
She has made tremendous contributions to Insurance education and the industry. She is an author and researcher. She coAuthored Domestication of Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria books (CIIN) Textbook Life Assurance published in Lagos, Lagos State, Chattered
Insurance Institute of Nigeria, 2019 and “Fundamentals Agricultural Insurance”, Owerri, Imo State, Bon Publications, 2017.
She has published over 25 papers and journals in reputable local and international journals with
international visibility and of high impact.
Her research works were on insurance growth and impact of insurance.
Dr. Ehiogu is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Loan Risk Management, an Associate Member of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (ACIIN) and also a Chartered Insurer.
She is also a member of, the Academy of Management of Nigeria (MAMN) 2019 and the Association of Management and Social Sciences of Nigeria (AMSSRN) 2021.
She was Examination Coordinator Insurance Department Faculty of Management Sciences Imo State University, Owerri. Postgraduate and B.Sc. Coordinator: Insurance Department Faculty of Management Sciences Imo State University, Owerri as the arrowhead of the Department, she painstakingly and
successfully earned Professional Accreditation of the Department by the
Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), and full Accreditation of the
Department by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2021 and
2022, respectively.
She was member, AdHoc committee for the 2018 National and International Conference of the Faculty of Business Administration Imo State University, Owerri and Co-Chair of Academic Management of Nigeria (TAMN) 13th Annual Conference Track Session 24th–27th September 2019, University of Otuoke, Bayelsa State Nigeria.
She was accorded the Most Disciplined Lecturer by the National Association of Insurance and Actuarial Students NAIAS (2016) and one of the Best Graduating Students in 2005 set (PG. 4.11).
