The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (Lagos State Branch) has presented an Excellence Award to the Commissioner for Establishments, Training and Pension, Dr. Akintola Benson.

Chairman of the Lagos branch, Olaide Bamidele presented the Award titled: “Labour Friendly Award in Good Service and Leadership” to the Commissioner at a Special Award Dinner organised by the Association on May Day in Lagos.

Bamidele stated that the award is among others for relative peace and industrial harmony in the Lagos State Civil Service under the Commissioner’s watch.

While expressing gratitude to the association, Dr. Benson said he will redouble his efforts in doing those things that qualified him for award.

He disclosed that the administration will continue its fidelity to its obligations regarding regular payments of salaries, allowances and pension obligations.

The event according to him, held on a day that holds a special significance for Organised Labour and for employer-employee relationships.

He said: “Earlier today, the Governor of Lagos State, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode re-stated his dedication and commitment to the training, welfare and partnership with officers of the Public Service. It is on this note that I call for even greater and deeper cooperation between the association and the state government.

“More than ever before, now is the time for you all to show even greater dedication to your all-important duties as senior civil servants. The Lagos State Civil Service is now needed to complement the efforts of this administration as it seeks to fundamentally transform infrastructure and re-position the State as a competitive Global City that is positioned to attract and retain investments and talents that will further deepen our economy and increase our relevance in global commerce.

“Let me briefly share with you three areas in which we can partner for the progress of Lagos State. First, the government will be counting on you to offer and proffer rigorously-examined and selfless advice that will enable the government to adopt and implement people-oriented programmes and policies. Secondly, the administration will also expect that you take advantage of the numerous trainings and seminars that the Ministry of Establishments, Training and Pensions has been hosting. And thirdly, you can count on this administration to continue its fidelity to its obligations regarding regular payments of salaries, allowances and pension obligations. This administration realises that the only basis upon which it may demand your full and unalloyed loyalty and dedication is if it fulfills its obligations as a responsible employer of labour. You can rest assured that we will continue to keep on the path honour and virtue even in the face daunting economic challenges”, he added.
